Nowadays, almost all parents use diapers for their baby. They save time and simplify child care. But there is also a downside to the medal - diaper rash, dermatitis, and other unpleasant things that a crumb can have if you wear diapers excessively.

To determine how many diapers a newborn needs per day, when buying a product, it is recommended to take into account the individual needs of the baby, which depend on:

  • age
  • the amount of urination,
  • weight.

The infant in the maternity hospital requires 10-12 pieces, but the older the child becomes, the smaller the number of diapers left.

Some doctors and parents oppose the fact that children wear diapers all the time. They argue that frequent use of diapers is harmful to children's health, that they do not breath, and this causes skin irritation.

However, most doctors believe that the proper use of diapers will not harm the skin of the child. Due to the fact that they are made of environmentally friendly, harmless materials, able to pass air, do not cause negative reactions on the skin.

How to choose the right diapers

If you decide to use diapers, then you should seriously consider the choice of the manufacturer. To determine in which diapers the crumbs will be convenient, you can buy products from different companies one by one. This should take into account the size of the product, it is determined by the weight of the baby.

Doctors advise to pay attention to the presence of gum, velcro, they should be comfortable and comfortable.

Many manufacturers offer special series of baby care products, including diapers, which have excellent absorbent characteristics. But, remember, the child is the best expert in choosing care products.

By the behavior and reaction of the baby, the mother will be able to determine whether he is satisfied with the means of hygiene. If he is not naughty, plays, and his skin is dry, does not have irritations, then this remedy suits him. In a huge range of products, you can always choose exactly what is suitable for your crumbs.

What to look for

The number of urinations in infants is on average 20-25 times per day. Consider this when choosing the number of diapers.

They need to be changed by the child before, after feeding, before bedtime, at a certain time (when the old diaper is already full), before the walk. On average, it turns out that diapers change every 2-3 hours. If unexpected situations arise, you can change more often.

Some parents use gauze diapers, rather than diapers, starting from the maternity hospital, and a large number of them are spent every day. For this reason, in the future moms refuse them. Washing gauze diapers is tiring, and diapers are much more practical and economical.

Shift frequency

Usually the change occurs up to 10-12 times a day. As the child grows, fewer products go away.. For example, babies by 6 months already need up to 5 shifts per day (4 per day, 1 per night). This is due to the fact that older babies do not have feces less frequently than babies.

Over time, the number of used hygiene products (powder, cream) decreases, the mother herself determines how much they need.

After each change of diapers, the baby should be washed with warm water and soap. Doctors advise to smear the crumb with a cream that will protect the skin throughout the day. For example, chamomile cream, or with calendula.

Shift at night

It is important to understand that the sleeping child should not be awakened in order to change the diapers. Wait until he gets hungry and wakes up. The process of changing diapers is no different from the daily option.

Some companies produce special night diapers, they are thicker and have enhanced absorption technology so that nothing disturbed the baby in a dream.

Advantages and disadvantages of disposable diapers

It is necessary to highlight the main pros and cons, the main advantages include the following characteristics:

  1. they save time because they do not need to be washed,
  2. they are easily removed and worn,
  3. they are comfortable,
  4. baby stays dry
  5. clothes don't get dirty,
  6. do not leak
  7. differ in convenience,
  8. create conditions for a healthy sleep.

The disadvantages include inefficiency. For a young family, costs can be a substantial amount. Children have dermatitis, allergic reactions to the materials of some manufacturers. Do not use the product with an upset stomach or at high temperature. Also, there is a perception about the dangers of diapers for the hip joint of a baby and that they interfere with teaching the crumbs to the pot.

Leading pediatricians advise not to use diapers unnecessarily, the most important thing in using them is calm and rest of the mother, who can spend more time with her baby, play with him, and spend time on education.

Features of the body of the newborn

For experienced parents, it becomes easy to calculate how many diapers per day they need to spend to create the most comfortable conditions for the crumbs. Equally important is the system and the main criteria that are used by mom. For example, if the diaper is used only for a walk, then two pieces will be enough. Parents also note that this option is convenient to use during sleep. If it is customary to take them with you during the rest period, the number will be increased to four. Additionally, it should be noted that in a dream the child will also be able to poop. This factor should be taken into account without fail. The process of bowel movement occurs both day and night. Additionally, parents will have to try on how much to check the condition of the diaper, if the child is not naughty.

Diapers will have to take much less as the baby grows. Parents will be able to predict the intensity of urination. As a rule, this process occurs from five to fifteen times a day. The intensity depends on the fat content of milk and the number of meals.

Additionally, it should be noted that a lot more diapers are left per day if the baby is on an artificial feeding option. In the first months of life, the chair is often observed, because in infants the process of forming the gastrointestinal tract only ends. As a rule, feces can be observed after each feeding. This process is considered completely normal. Even reusable diapers will have to be changed at least 15 times a day. It is necessary to purchase them in such a quantity so that they can dry out. A one-time version of the diaper should be replaced immediately after a bowel movement. Otherwise, the risk of developing dermatitis or other skin diseases increases.

In the first month of life, a newborn needs a large amount of replacement linen. Parents are advised to make in advance a supply of diapers. Over time, the child will improve the process of digestion and the intensity of the stool will noticeably decrease. As they grow up, problems with the chair of their parents will become secondary. For example, from the age of two months a day they will need no more than five pieces. The main thing is to adapt to the needs of the crumbs and learn the features of his regime.

The feasibility of using diapers

No need to buy diapers in large quantities immediately after the birth of the child into the world. The product is manufactured depending on the weight of the child, so it can quickly become out of size. Newborns are also different from each other, so stocks may not be useful. Experienced moms prefer and recommend others to buy diapers as needed. It is best to further monitor the changes in the parameters of the child as they grow.

Changing diapers will have very often. Otherwise, failure to follow basic rules of personal hygiene can lead to the development of diseases on the skin of the baby. Only disposable diapers will avoid the situation. Thanks to them, a woman can save some time and spend it on herself. Indeed, in this case there will be no need to wash the mountains of linen.

Mother needs to rest in sufficient quantities. However, the ability to completely do without pampers is also there. To do this, parents must have the desire and a large amount of time. This experience was in past generations. They had to spend a lot of time to observe elementary norms and rules of personal hygiene.

Reusable diaper lasts a long time.

The product has the following characteristics:

  • Fabric panties, for the manufacture of which used gauze or cotton.
  • For ease of use, some models include interchangeable liners. They are made in such a way as to be easily unfastened.
  • Reusable diapers allows the skin to breathe, but at the same time qualitatively protects the ass from leakage.

When handling a baby, it is important to create maximum hygienic conditions.

Against this background, it is required to perform washing of reusable products immediately after emptying the bowel or bladder. Parents say that they took a lot of such products. They need to be changed every two hours in the first months of life of the crumbs. At night, this process is performed much less frequently. Each child has their own individual needs, so it is not easy to derive a general scheme. During the first month of life, the baby spends much time at the breast. That is why he pisses much more often. Parents should stock up with all the necessary supplies to create optimal hygienic conditions.

Every woman can make diapers from gauze independently. In advance, you should calculate the amount that it will spend per month. This will be able to pre-stock all necessary. For an independent pattern, you should take the gauze and cut it in such a way that you get diapers 90 by 90 centimeters. The fabric at the first stage is folded in half, and then again. The result should be a cut of 15 to 30 centimeters. Mom should calculate in advance how many times it will take to fold the fabric to make 18 layers. It is believed that such a size is the most convenient. However, it is possible to use other options. It all depends on the individual preferences of mommy and baby.

If you have already calculated how many diapers you need for a month, then waterproof diapers should be purchased with them. Thanks to them, the baby will be able to take air baths and, for example, crawl around the crib. In this case, the woman will not worry about the fact that he will ruin the furniture. The diaper will quickly absorb the liquid and prevent further leakage. For this, there is a special waterproof layer on the bottom of the product.

Only on the chosen use case directly depends on the number of diapers that parents will spend per month. General requirements and criteria in this matter does not exist.

Myths around disposable diapers

Often, some pediatricians and relatives are opposed to the child being constantly in disposable diapers. They scare the young mother with myths that it is harmful to health. Supposedly, the skin in them does not breathe and this can lead to irritation and diaper rash, and sometimes as a result of overheating of the testicles, cause infertility in boys.

All these fears are absolutely groundless. When used correctly, diapers can not harm the delicate and sensitive skin of newborns, as they are made of natural anti-allergenic materials, which let air easily and do not cause negative skin reactions.

The fear of possible infertility and impaired spermatogenesis in boys is also greatly exaggerated. Spermatozoa begin to be produced at a much older age, by about 12 years. It is simply impossible to harm this process by wearing diapers. Here is a detailed article - Are diapers harmful for boys?

How to choose the best?

If you prefer diapers, you should take a responsible approach to the choice of the manufacturer. Do not rely on advertising or cost. Not always the most expensive or popular diapers will suit your baby. Much depends on the individual characteristics. To find out which diapers are more comfortable for your baby in diapers, you can buy several diapers from different manufacturers on a sample by piece. Consider the size, which is determined by the weight of the baby. Experts recommend to pay attention to the rezinochki and velcro diapers. They should not be tough.

Some companies present on the market special diaper series especially for babies, characterized by excellent absorbing abilities. The best expert in the choice of diapers is the baby himself. He can always tell if something is wrong. The kid, pleased with the means of hygiene and care, is not naughty, plays merrily. His skin is dry, without irritation or strips of velcro or rubber bands. He is not trying to pull the diaper off. Over time, in the entire range of modern diapers, a mother will be able to choose the ones that will be ideally suited for her baby in terms of quality.

How many diapers will a newborn need per day?

The answer to this question worries many young mothers. They want at least approximately to know how many diapers should be bought for the first time. The numbers are very approximate and depend on the frequency of urination and feces, as well as the age of the baby.

The number of urination in children of the first month of life varies from 20 to 25 times a day. Many mothers carried out a wet diaper test and this figure was confirmed. The daily volume of urine can be from 300 to 500 ml, one-time (one urination) - from 20 to 35 ml. The chair in the first weeks of life can be almost after each feeding. Do not be afraid of this.

Pediatricians advise changing newborn diapers before or after feeding, before going to bed or when the baby is awake, and also before walking. This is approximately every 2-3 hours. In case of unforeseen situations, the diaper changes more often and there is no need to wait for a certain time. If you come to a massage therapist, then even if the baby's diaper is barely filled, after the procedure it is advisable not to wear it, but use a new one. In the case of a bowel movement, the diaper must be changed.

At each change of the diaper, the child must be washed simply with water or soapy water after a bowel movement. It is recommended to use a special protective cream under the diaper with chamomile or calendula (how to apply the cream under the diaper (top creams rating)). You can not immediately wear a new diaper, and put the baby naked in the diaper and let him lie down. It should be remembered that the optimum temperature in the room should be around 20-22 ° C.

On average, the frequency of changing a disposable diaper for a newborn - up to 10 times a day . With age, the child will need fewer diapers. Children for half a year is enough up to 5 pieces per day (4 during the day + 1 for the night) . This is due to the fact that in infants older bowel movements do not occur as often as in newborns. The number of diapers used is also reduced.

In general, each mother determines how many times the child needs to change the diapers. At the same time, she takes into account the individual characteristics of her baby.

Answers mummies from the forums:

... when the little one was completely - 5-7 pcs

... 4-6 pieces, the child in them constantly

... while small 6-7 pcs. left, take yourself a big pack, go more economically ...

... If diapers are constantly, then the newborn needs them 10-12 per day, the older the child, the lower the consumption.

... Constantly in a diaper, a minimum of 10 a day goes away. It is believed that the more often you change - the less diapers are harmful, I have heard it more than once from doctors. When the diaper is dry, what unprecedented harm is from him, as supporters of the scoop like to frighten? Sorry, but I do not consider the piss gauze diaper "more useful"

pampers is designed for about 4 hours, 24 hours a day, 24/4 = 6 pieces. + 2 more just in case. Total 8.

Diaper change at night: do you need to wake up for this?

Some manufacturers create special lines of "night" diapers for newborns. These diapers allow the baby to be dry in a dream and sleep soundly. They have a thicker layer and excellent absorbency.

Sleeping baby is not recommended to wake up for the next change of the diaper. Wait until he wants to eat and wake up. Then you can gently change his clothes.

Arguments for and against the use of disposable diapers

Pampers have their charms and shortcomings. Significant advantages include the following:

  • They make it possible to save time and effort of a young mother, since they do not require washing. It is enough to remove and throw out,
  • They are comfortable, as the moisture is perfectly absorbed and the baby is dry and contented. Clothing remains clean and dry.
  • With proper use and size, they do not leak,
  • They are very convenient for long-term trips or walks, and in cold and winter time are indispensable,

There are opinions that if you use them all the time, this can lead to a hip joint curvature of the baby. Some insist that diapers make it difficult to accustom the child to the pot in the future (By the way, here's what's interesting: 6 best panties - diapers).

Experienced pediatricians advise not to abuse diapers and wear them as needed. The main thing in their use is an additional rest and calmness of a young mother. Such a mommy will be able to feel all the joy of her new position and give the baby more love, affection and attention.

Diapers Myths

Many older people, as well as some doctors, oppose the use of diapers. They fear that it will harm the health of the crumbs. Among older people there is a perception that the skin of the baby will not breathe, as a result of which irritation may occur. It is also believed that boys who are constantly in diapers, testicles overheat, which can further lead to infertility.

But these fears are unfounded. After all, diapers are designed specifically for the delicate skin of a child. If you use them correctly, there will be no allergies and diaper rash. By production only hypoallergenic materials which well pass air are used.

You should not be afraid that using diapers will harm the reproductive function of boys. Experts say that overheating at this age can not hurt.

How many diapers does a newborn need per day?

All young parents who have no experience in many aspects of caring for the crumbs are asked how many diapers will be consumed per day. They need to roughly calculate the amount that will need to be purchased for the first month or several weeks. This question cannot be answered exactly. After all, each baby has a different urination quantity. In addition, the frequency of changing diapers will depend on age.

During the first month, the crumbs can have 20-25 urinations per day. These figures are confirmed by the facts, since this experiment was conducted by so many young mothers. At one time, the volume of urine is 25-35 ml. As a result, 300-500 ml are obtained per day. A bowel movement, as a rule, happens almost every time after feeding.

Experts recommend changing diapers to babies who are not one month old, every time before and after feeding, before and after sleep, and also before going out. As a result, the change occurs approximately every 2.5-3 hours. If necessary, replacements can be done more often.

After the bowel movement, it is imperative to replace the diaper.

When changing the diapers, the baby must be washed with soap and water. Use a special cream containing ingredients based on calendula or chamomile. No need to rush to immediately put fresh diapers on the child. Let him lie for a while without him. At the same time you need to monitor the temperature in the room.

The average number of diapers per day for newborns is 10 pieces. As they grow older, their number will decrease. At the age of 5-6 months, about 5 per day will be enough. This is due to the fact that the frequency of urination and feces occurs less frequently.

The number of diapers must be determined by the parents themselves. After all, each child has its own characteristics and requirements.

Changing the diaper at night: do you need to wake the baby?

Many manufacturers have special diapers that are designed for a good night’s sleep. Putting on them, parents are sure that the crumbs will sleep well, will not wake up from the fact that it is wet. They are much thicker than usual, better absorbed.

If the baby sleeps well, it is not necessary to wake him up in order to change the diaper. Better to wait when he wakes up by himself.

Arguments for and against disposable diapers

Of course, diapers provide many opportunities for young parents. This is a real find to save time. But, like any other thing, they have flaws.

Here are the main advantages of using diapers.

  • The young mother's body is weakened. But after giving birth, she adds a lot of worries, which take time and effort. Diapers make it possible not to wash a large number of dirty diapers daily, and instead do other things or have a rest.
  • Diapers allow the baby to always feel comfortable. They very quickly absorb all the moisture. The crumb will not be capricious, as it would have been when using ordinary diapers.
  • If you choose the right size and use them in accordance with the recommendations, then the moisture will not leak. Clothes and bed will be dry and clean.
  • This is a real find for a walk or a visit. The young mother will not have to worry that an unpleasant situation will arise in a public place or at a party. Diapers are also indispensable in cold weather.
  • In diapers, the baby sleeps well and gets enough sleep.

All of the above advantages suggest that diapers are a fairly simple but extremely useful invention. They are real helpers for young moms and dads.

But they have disadvantages.

  • First of all, it is uneconomical. After all, each family has its own budget, and with the birth of a baby, expenses are significantly increased. The baby needs clothes, quality medicines, a cot, a stroller and much more. A lot of money is spent on baby food, especially if for some reason the mother does not have milk. Therefore, for young families, the purchase of diapers requires significant costs. Therefore, they often resort to various tricks, and use diapers only when necessary.
  • Manufacturers are trying to produce diapers only from anti-allergic material. But still sometimes children have an allergic reaction to them.
  • If the crumbs have a high temperature or the intestinal function is disturbed, diapers should be temporarily abandoned.
  • Some believe that a child from constantly wearing diapers may bend the joint. Others believe that their use makes it difficult to teach a baby to go to the pot.

Preparing diapers for the hospital

Fees to the hospital - a crucial and exciting moment. One of the main questions that every young mommy is asking is how many diapers you need to take with you. Let's calculate the amount together. We start from two indicators: the planned number of days that you will spend in the maternity hospital, plus the frequency of use.

It is difficult to foresee how the situation will turn, but you can always contact your relatives - they will carry the necessary number of diapers.

The second point that influences your decision is how you intend to use them: permanently or only at night. The working regulations of maternity hospitals implies the delivery of a set of clean diapers to each newborn, which is changed daily (more details in the article: what is the standard size of diapers for a newborn?). Kit is enough for the crumb was always dry.

Pediatricians recommend dispensing state-owned diapers. The opinion is due to the fact that in the first 2-3 days the child urinates a little (2-6 per day). This frequency is due to the small intake of fluid baby. Leave the modern option for night time, so that the baby sleeps well, then you will not have to get up to it. If we talk about the number, then 3 pieces per day will be enough. Therefore, for the entire period of stay in the hospital takes about 15 pieces.

Particularly worried moms who are worried about the crumbs, believing that a few minutes in a wet diaper will lead to freezing of the baby, it is worth taking diapers with a margin (5-7 pieces per day). Take into account all the calculations and the factors affecting them, we make the final conclusion: there will be enough packaging in 30 pieces. If you are planning a cesarean or other complications arise and you spend more than 3-5 days in the maternity hospital, relatives will help to solve the problem.

How many diapers do you need for a newborn in the first month?

With the maternity hospital behind you, you return home with the baby and again the same question: how many diapers do you need for a day. Only now the financial side is added to the calculation. The main argument is the physiological features of the newborn. A crumb receives breast milk or formula, which are liquid foods.

The intestine, processing them, gives a liquid stool pasty consistency. The baby goes “big” after each feeding, he urinates more often, about 10-25 times a day. These are normal indicators for a healthy baby.

Modern diapers perfectly absorb moisture, so there is no need to change them after each “trip” of the child to the toilet in a small way. As a rule, 10 shifts are enough to keep the baby dry. It turns out that in a month you will need 300 pieces. If you take a pack of 90 pieces, you have to take 3 such packs.

By purchasing several packs at once, you can save a lot. Subsequently, the need for them will decrease and by 6 months you will need half as many diapers.

How often to change a diaper to a newborn?

We figured out the approximate number, but the questions do not end there. How often should a diaper be changed? Consider what it depends on:

  • the amount of urine that the baby releases
  • skin reaction,
  • the temperature of the room where the baby is
  • the quality of the product itself,
  • the amount of fluid that a child consumes.

Mom should take into account these factors, and, on the basis of them, to make stocks. It is obvious that all the figures given are individual for each family. We give the opinion of Dr. Komarovsky, which is so often addressed by young moms. Evgeny Olegovich recommends:

  • Be sure to make a shift when the newborn poop. We can not allow the crumb to "steamed" in their own feces. In addition, mixing with urine, the feces form a poisonous substance that irritates the delicate skin of the crumbs.
  • If you understand that during a walk or a trip you will not have the opportunity to change the diaper normally, change it before the trip.
  • Looking under the diaper, we found that the crumbs of wet skin - immediately change to dry, after treating the skin with a cream.

The last paragraph of Komarovsky’s recommendations requires detailed analysis. It is important primarily because it affects the well-being of the baby. The presence of excessive moisture occurs for two reasons: poor quality product and the wrong size. Parents should immediately eliminate both negative factors in order not to harm the baby.

Reduce the number of diapers: small household tricks

At first, it will seem to you that your reserves are volatilizing at an exorbitant rate. A few helpful tips will help to significantly reduce the process of "evaporation" of diapers. Take note of:

  • If the room where the baby is, is warm (above +21), it is not necessary to dress the product crumbs when he walks. Baby's vest and diaper infused with cloth will keep baby's comfort. A great option - reusable diaper, sold in all pharmacies. However, there is one nuance arising from the sex of the newborn. Boys produce such a stream that not only diapers, but also walls and furniture become wet. Spit your son naked on the stomach.
  • Advice for babies up to 2 months of age. Use a waterproof product as needed, going outside or putting it on at night. The rest of the time, use a diaper. Children older than 2 months fit sliders.
  • The practice of many attentive mothers shows: if you hold the newborn over a basin immediately after feeding, he will surely pee (recommend read: when should you bathe the newborn - before or after feeding?). Then you can wear the product.
If the house is warm, you should periodically provide the child with the opportunity to be without diapers.

Useful tips for parents

The popularity of disposable diapers is so high that all mothers definitely support their use. Simple products are easy to use, provide protection for the baby from moisture for the whole day, save from it at night. Several important rules will help you use them wisely:

  1. Choose a model according to the weight of a son or daughter. Cramped or too large deliver a lot of discomfort to the baby.
  2. Noticed on the skin of your treasure of redness, rash, irritation - change the brand of the product. It is a mistake to buy them for the future without checking the reaction of the baby’s skin.
  3. When making a replacement, wipe the body of the crumbs with a clean, damp cloth, let it dry, and only then put on a fresh diaper.
  4. Stock up on a special cream or baby powder. Be sure to check the product for allergies. There are a lot of offers, you can always find a cream safe for your crumbs. Treat the baby’s skin with each change.
  5. If the baby has not healed the umbilical wound, buy special diapers that have a hole for the navel.
  6. Moms who use regular gauze diapers should be boiled after each use. Gauze panties need to be ironed with a hot iron before putting on. Such operations will help make them sterile.

After studying these recommendations, you can easily correctly select both the size and brand of the product. Draw a dad into the process. You may have to leave home someday and then your husband will easily replace you and cope with diapers. The rules are simple, remember them easily. We now turn to the basic process: we will learn to change diapers correctly (see also: how to properly wear diaper shorts?).

If the choice is made in favor of ordinary gauze diapers, they will need to be boiled after each use.

How to change a diaper?

It is not enough just to put on a clean diaper, you need to do a number of hygienic procedures. If you do not hold them, even the highest quality diaper does not protect the child from irritation and diaper rash. The skin of the baby must be thoroughly cleaned from residues of urine and feces, smeared with cream. Experienced mothers know about these intricacies, for inexperienced we have compiled detailed instructions.

Starting a change, prepare a clean product, baby soap, a basin of warm water, baby wipes, a soft towel, a cream under a diaper or a powder. Wash your hands, dry them, make room for swaddling. We do this:

  • We spread the changing table with oilcloth, cover it with a clean diaper,
  • we put on the child's table,
  • undoing dirty pampers, but do not remove it,
  • wipe stool from baby’s skin with the front of the diaper,
  • lift the crumbs by the ankles so that the butt also rises,
  • take out the diaper and fold it,
  • we take a basin with warm water and wash away the baby (if you have a girl, wash it by moving it from front to back) (we recommend reading: how to properly wash a newborn boy under the tap?)
  • carefully wipe the baby dry with a towel
  • lubricates the skin with cream
  • put on clean diapers, placing the back under the booty, and straighten the front part between the legs.

The definition of a diaper as a disposable product indicates that it cannot be washed, cleaned or dried. Used product is thrown into the trash.

To hurry with the purchase of a large number of packages is better not worth it. Remember about the individual work of the body of each child. Watch your treasure for the first week, so you determine the maximum number of diapers you need per day. Consider the resulting figure and purchase as many packs as you need based on your calculations.

Needs for diapers in newborns and up to 6 months

Newborn children are considered from 1 to 28 days of life. During this short period, the child's body undergoes a lot of changes: the kidneys start working, the volume of the stomach increases several times, digestion is improved. Therefore, in order to answer the question, how many diapers does a newborn need per day, it is necessary to understand how the intestines and urinary system of the child work during this period.

Newborn babies urinate for approximately 12 hours of their lives, but even if they do not urinate for 24 hours, this is also considered normal. The first 5 days of life, the average frequency of urination is 4-6 times a day, while the average amount of urine is up to 20 ml (see table 1).

Table 1 - Average urination and the need for diapers from the first days of life and up to 6 months

After the kidneys have adjusted their work and breast milk or baby food has begun to enter the baby’s stomach, he urinates 20–25 times per day on average, with a one-time amount of urine about 20–30 ml. Thus, from the first days of life to 6 months of age, the average daily volume of urination in children ranges from 400 to 750 ml.

Pediatricians pay attention to parents that there can not be strict norms on the volume and number of urinations in children, because the amount of urine depends on many factors (how many days have passed after delivery, the type of feeding, the environment, the amount of food consumed per day). Therefore, all the figures that are given in the article are averaged and cannot be considered as reference.

Для того чтобы подсчитать, сколько подгузников нужно новорожденному, следует учесть такие моменты:

  • разовое количество мочи составляет 20–30 мл, при этом мочится ребенок в среднем каждый час,
  • full moisture absorption of a diaper for newborns should be at least 120 g (in accordance with the requirements of GOST 52557-2011).

Based on the above data, you can calculate how much a newborn can be in the diaper. Dividing the amount of moisture absorption of a diaper (120 g) into a single amount of urine (30 ml), it turns out that one diaper should be enough for about 4 urination, that is, 3-4 hours.

But pediatricians recommend newborns to change diapers after each breastfeeding, that is, every 2-3 hours. Such recommendations have sufficiently good reasons, because most of the newborns pee after each feeding and it is very important to properly care for the baby’s skin in order to prevent diaper dermatitis. So, if you do not save on pampers and follow the recommendations of specialists, then the average will be gone a day up to 10 diapers.

Those moms who count how many diapers to take to the hospital, one must also not forget that during the first 2-3 days of life meconium leaves in babies. Its volume averages 60–90 grams, so it is better to stock up on diapers and patience, and count not on 10 diapers per day, but on 12–13 pieces. In this case, you can not exactly worry about the fact that the child does not have enough children's hygiene products. But the usual for a newborn baby chair begins to form only after the first week of life.

How much your baby can wear diapers depends not only on the number of urination, but also on the number of feces. A newborn baby, starting from the second week of life, can peel up to 7–10 times a day, that is, as many times as he eats. And after each bowel movement it is necessary to change the diaper, without waiting for filling it with urine.

Requirements for diapers from 6 months of life to 1 year

Parents of babies aged from 6 months to one year have more opportunities to reduce the number of diapers spent per day. The fact is that the average number of urinations at this stage of life is significantly reduced (approximately 15-16 times a day), which means that the child no longer pees every hour. In addition, defecation in half-year old children does not happen so often - on average, two or three times, and every year children poop one or yes times a day.

But in order to understand how many diapers a child needs from 6 months per day, you need to know the average amount of urine released at a time. According to pediatricians, on average:

  • the amount of urine at a time in children aged from 6 months to a year is 25–45 ml,
  • the amount of feces per day for half year old babies is 40–50 grams, and for children of one year old it is 100–200 grams,
  • full moisture absorption of a diaper for children under the age of 1 year must be at least 160 g (GOST 52557-2011).

The result is that babies up to a year will need about 5-7 pieces of diapers, and when asked how many times to change a diaper, pediatricians answer about every 4 hours. But if the child poked, the diaper needs to be changed right away. At the same time, it is necessary to take 15 minute breaks during the change of diapers, so that the skin of the child rests.
