When rhinitis, laryngitis, bronchitis and other diseases of the respiratory system are often prescribed inhalation, in which the drug enters the respiratory tract using a nebulizer. One of the medications used for such inhalation therapy is Hydrocortisone. Not everyone knows whether it is possible to carry out procedures with children for him, in which cases it is necessary and how to properly dilute the medicine.

Composition and form

For procedures using the liquid form of the drug, which is an ampoule with suspension. Although this medication is intended for injection into the joints or muscles, it is often prescribed for inhalation.

The main ingredient of the solution is hydrocortisone acetate. Its dosage in one ampoule is both 25 mg and 50 mg. For inhalations, a lower dose is usually used (25 mg / 1 ml), especially if the child is to be manipulated.

Auxiliary components of the medication are sterile water, benzyl alcohol, sodium chloride, povidone, propylene glycol and sorbitol. Each ampoule contains 2 ml of the drug, and in one box there are 5 or 10 ampoules.

How does it work?

"Hydrocortisone" is one of the glucocorticoid hormones, so the medicine has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effects.

In addition, this drug reduces itching and relieves swelling. Influencing the foci of inflammation, it prevents the accumulation of blood cells in them, reduces the production of compounds that support the inflammatory response, and also reduces the permeability of vascular walls. Thanks to these effects, inhalation with Hydrocortisone helps to eliminate spasm in the throat, barking cough, laryngeal swelling and hoarseness.

How old can you do?

Treatment with "Hydrocortisone" in the form of inhalation is prescribed to children older than 2 years. However, the drug can be used at an earlier age (from 3 months), if the doctor sees serious indications for this. Doing the procedure for a child under 3 years old without a pediatrician is not allowed.

Inhalations with "Hydrocortisone" are in demand:

  • With laryngitis.
  • With laryngotracheitis.
  • With a false croup.
  • With acute bronchitis.
  • In case of bronchial asthma.

The most frequent indication for such treatment is laryngospasm.

Contraindications

Treatment with Hydrocortisone through a nebulizer is not recommended for:

  • Renal failure.
  • Diabetes mellitus.
  • Increased body temperature.
  • Ulcers of the digestive tract.
  • Tuberculosis.
  • Hepatic insufficiency.
  • Diseases of the cardiovascular system in which palpitations or increased blood pressure are increased.

Instructions for use

Inhalation is often carried out only during the attack, for emergency care. The dosage is determined by the doctor individually (based on the nature of the disease and the age of the child). Most often, one milliliter of suspension is prescribed for one procedure, which should be diluted with 2-3 milliliters of saline. More exact proportions should be prompted by a pediatrician.

For inhalation, you need to prepare the vial "Hydrocortisone", saline, nebulizer and syringe. Since during storage the drug particles settle to the bottom, the suspension must first be shaken. Next, having broken off the upper part of the ampoule, you should use a syringe to add 1 ml of the solution and pour it into the nebulizer compartment. After that, a physiological solution is taken up with a syringe and, in the ratio prescribed by the doctor, is also added to the nebulizer.

The duration of the procedure is usually 5-10 minutes. The little patient should inhale the medication calmly, as a strong breath can aggravate the spasm.

After inhalation, it is recommended to rinse your mouth and refrain from eating for at least 30 minutes. More than two inhalations per day is undesirable.

Terms of purchase and storage

To purchase "Hydrocortisone" in ampoules, you must first consult with your doctor and get a prescription for such medicine. The average price of 10 ampoules of the drug is 150 rubles. Store the suspension at home should be at a temperature below +15 degrees, but it should not be allowed to freeze. The best place would be the top shelf of the refrigerator, where the drug will not get a small child. Shelf life of the drug - 3 years.

On the use of suspension "Hydrocortisone" for inhalation, many mothers respond positively. They emphasize that the drug acts locally and very quickly removes edema, so that the tool helps with laryngospasm and barking cough. Although many parents are frightened that this is a hormonal agent, but in most reviews, mothers say that there are no side effects.

If you need to replace "Hydrocortisone", the doctor may prescribe inhalation with other medicines that have similar therapeutic effects:

  • "Pulmicort". Such a drug based on budesonide is used for croup, asthma and other cases of bronchial obstruction. It is represented by a metered-dose suspension for inhalation and is approved for children older than 6 months.
  • "Budeen Steri-Neb." This medicine also contains budesonide and is available in vials for inhalation. For children, medication is prescribed for bronchial asthma or false croup from six months of age.
  • "Hydrocortisone-Richter". In this preparation, lidocaine is added to the hormone, so the medicine is in demand for severe sore throat, which often manifests laryngitis.
  • "Dexamethasone". For inhalation apply injection solution. Such a drug for laryngism can be used at any age.

Medications for inhalation

All medications should be used after prescribing a doctor. It is necessary to observe the dosage, otherwise there is a risk of allergic reactions, as well as the development of side effects or a complication of the disease.

  1. Antibiotics. Used for lesions of the respiratory system by bacteria. Streptomycin, Fluimucil, Ceftriaxone is used for inhalation.
  2. Mucolytics. Mucolytics are used to thin the sputum. Such drugs as Mukaltin, Perkusin, Gdeliks are used.
  3. Immunomodulators. Used to support immunity. For the prevention used Derinat, Chlorophyllipt, Miramistin.
  4. Bronchodilators. In order to relieve symptoms of bronchial asthma. Used Atrovent, Berotek, Berodual.
  5. Hormonal. Preparations of this type relieve inflammation. Such drugs as Cromohexal, Dexamethasone, Pulmicort are used.

Saline is used for inhalation. In saline solution, the medicine is diluted in such proportions as indicated by the attending physician.

Indications for use of hydrocortisone

Inhalation directly affects the site of the disease. With the help of hydrocortisone, diseases such as bronchitis, bronchial asthma, laryngotracheitis are treated. Hydrocortisone refers to anti-inflammatory drugs from the group of glucocorticoids.

  • Stops the development inflammatory process, and also reduces the activity of pathogenic microorganisms.
  • Removes toxins and relieves swelling.
  • Removes allergic reactions.

The use of hydrocortisone normalizes breathing and also reduces inflammation. The drug successfully dilutes sputum, which contributes to its removal.

Instructions for the use of hydrocortisone

For inhalation only suspensions are used. Hydrocortisone acetate is available in 2 ml ampoules. One ampoule contains 0.05 grams of hydrocortisone and an excipient. Hydrocortisone-Richter is used for severe edema, as well as in other severe cases. Available in vials of 5 ml and contains hydrocortisone acetate 125 mg. The preparation also contains 25 mg of lidocaine with an excipient. Lidocaine in the drug provides an anesthetic effect.

Inhalations with hydrocortisone are carried out:

  1. With the help of improvised means. You can use inhalation at home. For this, a small amount of the drug is added to the hot water. The patient is covered with a cloth under which steam accumulates. A person is above a vessel of water and inhales steam containing preparations. The time for inhalation to children up to 10 years is 5–8 minutes. An adult can be exposed to steam for up to 15 minutes. Per day it is admissible to carry out from 3 to 5 procedures. The amount of hydrocortisone a day should not exceed more than 30 grams. The course of procedures is from 5 to 10 days.
  2. With the help of a nebulizer. Provides a better effect than in the past version. The advantages are that steam acts directly on the foci of inflammation. For children, 1 ml of the drug is mixed with 2 ml of saline, and added to the tank for solutions. The dose for adults is increased to 2 ml per 1 ml of saline. The nebulizer has several nozzles. Thanks to the nozzles, a cloud of vapor penetrates all hard-to-reach places of the respiratory system. Due to the quality of steam penetration, the procedure time is reduced. Children under 6 years old are allowed to use the nebulizer once a day. Children under 12 years old are allowed 2 times a day, and adults may use the nebulizer up to 3 times. The total number of procedures with hydrocortisone according to the instructions should not exceed 5 times.

Rules of the procedure

Inhalation with hydrocortisone should be carried out in comfortable clothes so that it does not squeeze the chest and throat. Treatment achieves efficacy with the following rules:

  • Doctor's recommendations must be respected. You should also consider the instructions for the drug.
  • Inhalation is permissible to apply 1–2 hours after meals.
  • Banned before inhalation exercise stress.
  • Inhale the steam for diseases throat must be through the mouth, and when the head cold through the nose.
  • Steam must not exceed 30 degrees for children. Steam temperature for adults up to 70 degrees.
  • After the procedure It is recommended to keep silent, and it is also forbidden to eat food for 2 hours.

The use of drugs should be carried out in a calm atmosphere. A person must adopt a comfortable posture, and not be distracted by other matters.

Side effects

The use of hydrocortisone for inhalation can have side effects. Uncontrolled dosage of the drug leads to a deterioration of health. It is recommended to consult a doctor before using inhalations.

Side effects of the drug hydrocortisone include:

  • The emergence of nausea.
  • Hiccups
  • Irritability.
  • Allergic reactions.

Independent use of the drug, as well as non-compliance with the doctor’s prescriptions, leads to side effects. Side effects are manifested in a general deterioration of well-being. In rare cases, there is a rash on the skin, as well as weight gain.

Description of the drug

The drug contains hydrocortisone - glucocorticosteroid, which is synthesized by the adrenal cortex, and belongs to hormonal drugs, so it should be used only under the strict supervision of a physician. But do not be afraid of the fact that the drug contains hormones, with proper use of any side effects should not occur. The main active ingredient of the drug is hydrocortisone or hydrocortisone acetate, which is considered a more active substance than just cortisone.

For inhalation, a suspension intended for intramuscular administration is used, although the instructions for use do not imply such a method of use. However, doctors actively discharge hydrocortisone for inhalation, and due to the fact that the active substance gets directly to the affected area, the result will be noticeable almost immediately. It is important to remember that the daily dose of medication should not exceed 25 grams per day, but this amount is quite enough to obtain the desired effect.

The drug perfectly relieves allergy attacks due to its antihistamine properties, relieves swelling, laryngism and inflammation in the throat, which occurs when laryngitis, bronchitis and exacerbations of asthma. In addition, hydrocortisone is able to delay interferon in the body, which prevents the fall of the immune system and accelerates recovery.

The drug is contraindicated:

  • Pregnant women, because it lowers the ability of connective tissue to structure, which can cause abnormalities in the development of the fetus,
  • Suffering from tuberculosis, because the drug can cause a relapse,
  • Diabetics
  • People with osteoporosis, because the drug contributes to the development of the disease and its exacerbations,
  • For patients with peptic ulcer - hydrocortisone can lead to perforations and internal bleeding,
  • People with cardiovascular problems, since the drug significantly increases blood pressure and increases heart rate,
  • People over 65 years old.

It is also necessary to monitor the reaction of the body and immediately discontinue use if there are signs of individual intolerance to the drug.

How to use the drug?

Inhalations with hydrocortisone for laryngitis should be carried out with the consent of the attending physician, who is obliged to calculate the required amount of medication, as well as write a prescription, which is required to buy a glucocorticosteroid in a pharmacy.

This medication is best suited to those who often suffer from bronchitis, as well as asthma and allergies.

For a successful inhalation will require:

  • Water-soluble hydrocortisone ampoules for inhalation,
  • Nebulizer - inhalation device,
  • Saline,
  • Syringe.

Having prepared everything you need, you can proceed to the dilution of inhalation mixture. The solution must be mixed in a ratio of 25 milliliters of hydrocortisone to 3 milliliters of saline. If a child is sick, you should consult with your doctor about the dosage, since the above dosage is considered classic, but not for everyone. Do not do more than two inhalation procedures per day, especially children. Before starting the preparation of the solution, it is necessary to thoroughly wash the dishes, then you need to break the tip of the ampoule and draw a suspension into the syringe, which is then mixed with a saline solution. Breathing is necessary in the normal mode, not too deep, otherwise a strong fit of cough from increased respiratory activity may occur.

Inhalations with hydrocortisone can be combined with dioxidine-based procedures, which can also treat persistent, non-coughing coughs. Since dioxidine as a drug is not less potent than hydrocortisone, all inhalations based on them should be carried out under the supervision of the attending physician. Successful treatment based on hydrocortisone and dioxidine allows you to disinfect the respiratory tract, relieve swelling and spasm of the throat, and also has a solid bactericidal effect on pathogens.

How does the drug work?

Hydrocortisone is available both in pure form and in combination with lidocaine. This is a local anesthetic that reduces heart rate and eliminates spasms. A pediatrician or otolaryngologist may prescribe just such a combination.

For example - Hydrocortisone Richter for inhalation, having in its composition lidocaine. This tool is aimed at relieving inflammation and lowering the synthesis of prostaglandins, which ensures the elimination of pain and spasms.

Features of glucocorticoids:

  • Eliminate puffiness.
  • Fight allergic reactions and inflammations.
  • They dilute sputum and contribute to their speedy separation and removal.
  • Provide immunostimulating function, preserving the production of interferon.

The tool is used for acute attacks, high efficiency is noted 10 to 15 minutes after application.

This result is caused by focal effects of the drug. The patient notes relief of breathing, elimination of spasms, increasing expectorant effect.

The use of these glucocorticoids causes fewer side effects. The main thing in the procedure is strict adherence to proportion.

The correct calculation will hold a specialist. Before the appointment, it is necessary to inform him about the possible pathologies, which are included in the list of contraindications.

Hydrocortisone for inhalation in children: features of use

The main role in the use of respiratory physiotherapy techniques is hormone dilution. In case of bronchitis and tracheitis, adults are advised to dilute the steroid with saline in the ratio of 1: 1 or 2: 1, but the dosage for children is different.

  1. Assign 1 ml of anti-inflammatory drug to 2 ml of saline.
  2. If the pediatrician considers it necessary, then the solution can be prescribed for children up to 2 years old, in a ratio of 1 ml of emulsion per 5 ml of saline.

These proportions relate to substances in ampoules. Quantity can be measured with a syringe.

  1. The child is shown to perform the procedure no more than 2 times a day, in the morning and in the evening. It is also permitted in the case of a sharp, sudden attack of choking cough.
  2. The course of treatment lasts from 3 to 7 days.

The first 3 days use inhalations twice a day, after - they switch to 1 procedure per day in order to exclude the option of abrupt drug withdrawal.

A pediatrician may prescribe a regimen in which hydrocortisone for inhalation should be alternated with drugs containing Ambroxol.

Inhalation with hydrocortisone for laryngitis

The product is diluted with saline in the same proportions as in bronchitis or bronchial asthma.Using hydrocortisone for laryngitis, take into account one feature: the inhalation of vapor must occur through the nose and mouth, because the larynx is inflamed.

Combined remedies help speed recovery and stop puffiness. In the absence of sensitivity to the components, prepare a mixture for inhalation: mix 1 ml of Kalanchoe juice, 1% solution of chinosol (antibacterial drug), suspension of hydrocortisone and 2% solution of etonium (antiseptic substance).
[ads-pc-1] [ads-mob-1] When asking a doctor how to properly inhale on the basis of a hormonal drug, you should know: this type of procedure is not in itself the key to recovery. It is effective only in the case of an integrated approach to treatment prescribed by qualified specialists.

The price of the drug starts from 140 rubles per pack of 10 ampoules of 2 ml each.

The walls of the family are treated, as they say. In the pharmacy, I was advised to take a medication for inhalation - hydrocortisone. I studied the instructions, nothing frightened me about it, so I acquired it with confidence. It helped us in a few days. Evgenia, 32 years old

The advice was good. My daughter stopped coughing after a three-day course of procedures. I do not know if the drug had a miraculous effect or it was affected by the fact that the child had an initial stage. Tatyana, 47 years old

Bought as a result of another medicine. Of the advantages, I can say so far only its low cost relative to other drugs, as well as its relevance. After all, this medicine is advised by many. I just used to be careful. Andrey, 34 years old

But the drug copes with these symptoms. After discharge, I went to the pharmacy and bought it myself, just in case. If suddenly we are overtaken by such a disease, then we will try to undergo treatment at home. After all, the hospital is a hospital. In its nest is still cozier. Alexandra, 39 years old

What is inhalation?

This is the use of drugs by inhalation through the nasal cavity. It can be used for the prevention and treatment of such diseases: tonsillitis, bronchitis, inflammation of the larynx and ligaments, bronchial asthma, rhinitis, laryngopharyngitis, for the prevention of pathologies, acute respiratory infections with sore throat and cough.

Steam helps reduce the process of inflammation, cramps, and swelling. Promotes hydration and removal of bronchial mucus. As a result, the disease is “excreted” from the human body through frequent expectoration of accumulated sputum.

Characteristics of the drug

The drug "Hydrocortisone" is a strong hormonal medicine, which is among the glucocorticoids. Natural analogue of the hormone cortisol, located in the adrenal cortex. Each package contains instructions for inhalation. You can get the drug at the pharmacy.

  • Do not exercise before and after use.
  • The procedure is carried out no more than 3 times per day for 10 minutes.

Inhalation effect will be better with the use of devices: inhalers, nebulizers, the second of which are very functional, allow you to adjust the flow. Procedures are carried out only with the use of a suspension of hydrocortisone. These are Hydrocortisone acetate in ampoules of 2 ml and Hydrocortisone-Richter in vials of 5 ml. The composition includes other anti-inflammatory, painkillers.

Inhalation is carried out in the following steps.

  • Add hydrocortisone to the hot water in the prescribed dosage (it is better if the mixture is loaded into the nebulizer).
  • The patient leans over the pan, covered with a towel, breathes in pairs. Adult inhalation time is 15 minutes. During the day, 3 procedures are recommended. Course - up to 10 days. Inhalation will be more effective with the use of an inhaler or device - a nebulizer that directs steam to the inflammatory focus.
  • Adult dose - 2 ml of hydrocortisone and saline, 1 ml. It is added to inhalation capacity.
  • The procedure is carried out an hour after eating, no less. After it, you also do not need to eat, smoke, leave the house.
